Shipping Content on Autopilot: Our First API-Published Post

This post wasn’t written in the WordPress editor. It was created, formatted, and published entirely through the WordPress REST API — the same pipeline we’ll use for automated publishing going forward.

Why publish via the API?

Once posting is just an HTTP call, a whole class of workflows opens up. Content can come from anywhere — a script, a CMS, an AI drafting pipeline — and land on the site fully formatted without anyone touching wp-admin.

  • Repeatable — every post gets the same structure and formatting, every time.
  • Fast — draft to live in seconds, no copy-paste step.
  • Schedulable — posts can be queued and published on a calendar automatically.

What the pipeline does

The flow is simple: authenticate with a scoped application password, POST the content as Gutenberg block markup, attach a featured image through the media endpoint, and flip the status to publish. WordPress handles the rest — permalinks, feeds, theme rendering.

If you can read this with headings, a list, and this quote rendering correctly, the formatting pipeline works end to end.

What’s next

Next up: wiring a real content source into this pipeline and letting it run. This test post will self-destruct (well, get deleted) once everything is verified.
